Samit Hota , a renowned cybersecurity expert and Hacker from india, shared his intriguing journey from a curious child to a formidable force in the digital security world in an exclusive interview with ABC News. Born in 2001 in Odisha and raised in Mayurbhanj, Hota’s story is one of innovation, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.
Hota’s fascination with technology and the internet began at a young age. “Since childhood, I’ve always been very attracted to technology and the internet. I got my first real exposure to the internet when I was in class 7,” Hota recalls. This early interest set the stage for his future endeavors in the field of cybersecurity.
The turning point in Hota’s journey came when his parents refused to buy costly internet packs. “To overcome that, I learned hacking and started using free internet,” Hota revealed. This unconventional approach not only fueled his passion for technology but also laid the foundation for his future career in cybersecurity.
Initially driven by necessity, Hota’s interest in hacking quickly transformed into a passion for understanding and protecting digital systems. “I realized that understanding the vulnerabilities in systems could help me protect them. It wasn’t just about bypassing restrictions; it was about understanding how things work and ensuring they are secure,” he explained.
Hota’s journey was not without challenges. “There were times when I was misunderstood and faced criticism, especially for my unconventional methods. But I stayed focused on my goal,” he said. His perseverance paid off as he continued to learn and evolve, eventually contributing significantly to the big corporates like Meta, Twitter etc.
Hota’s collaboration with the CID CB marked a major breakthrough in his career. “My unique skills in understanding cybercriminal psychology and investigating nature helped the team to track criminals’ digital footprints. This collaboration enabled us to dismantle several cybercrime networks and prosecute many criminals, but again all these were completely voluntarily” Hota stated.
Hota views his role in cybersecurity as both reactive and proactive. “My role in cybersecurity is not just about responding to threats but also about creating effective strategies to prevent them. This includes developing smart search tools, educating the public, and continuously staying updated with the latest trends in cybersecurity,” he emphasized. Hota’s ultimate goal is to use his skills to make the internet a safer place for everyone.
Hota encourages aspiring cybersecurity experts to stay curious and never stop learning. “The digital landscape is always changing, and to stay ahead of cyber threats, one must keep learning and adapting. It’s also important to understand the ethical implications of your work and to use your skills for good,” he advised.
Looking ahead, Hota plans to continue making a positive impact in the field of cybersecurity. “There’s still so much to do, and I believe we can create a safer digital world together. I plan to keep working on new projects, collaborating with other experts, and sharing my knowledge to help others stay safe online,” he said.
